Michael Bennett O.D.
Dr. Bennett is a 1983 graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Michigan State University, and his Masters in Neurobiology from the University of Houston. His graduate work in visual development was widely published, including papers in Science and Brain Research. Dr. Bennett has presented original research at meetings of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Bennett moved to Juneau in 1999 from the upper peninsula of Michigan, his home state, where he had been in private practice. He has been very active in cataract and refractive surgery co management and is particularly interested in custom and bifocal contact lens design and glaucoma diagnosis and management. Dr. Bennett and his wife Dianne have three grown children, sons George and John in Naples, Florida, and daughter Allison who lives in Seattle. He is a member of Glacier Valley Rotary Club and the Alaska and American Optometric Associations. In his leisure time he enjoys skiing, hiking, and the spoiling of grandchildren.
Elizabeth Hunt, O.D.
Dr. Hunt is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry. Originally from Ohio, Dr. Hunt received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The Ohio State University. She is a published scientific author and has completed research with the National Eye Institute. As part of her optometric education, Dr. Hunt completed externships at clinics such as the Sacramento Society for the Blind, the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute which is consistently rated the #1 eye hospital in the United States. Dr. Hunt has received many honors and awards including the American Optometric Foundation Carl Zeiss Vision Fellowship and is a member of the Alaska and American Optometric Associations. Dr. Hunt is particularly interested in ocular disease management including glaucoma, surgical co-management including cataract and laser corrections, and specialty contact lens fits. Dr. Hunt and her husband Brad are outdoor enthusiasts and photography aficionados that enjoy hiking with their two dogs.
Clinton Wales – Certified Paraoptometric Technician
Clinton has been with the practice since October 2012 and obtained his certification through the American Optometric Association in January 2014. As a Certified Paraoptometric Technician, you will see Clinton before your visit with the doctor. He will perform pre-testing during your comprehensive eye exam as well as any ocular-related medical tests recommended by Dr. Hunt or Dr. Bennett. Clinton was raised in Juneau and enjoys downhill skiing, staying involved with his church, and feasting on burritos.
Jenica Canaday – Certified Paraoptometric Technician
Jenica has been part of the practice since December of 2013 and earned her certification through the American Optometric Association in August 2015. As a Paraoptometric Technician, you will see Jenica before your visit with the doctor. She will perform pre-testing during your comprehensive eye exam as well as any ocular-related medical tests recommended by Dr. Hunt or Dr. Bennett. Jenica has over 10 years of experience working in the healthcare field and finds optometry to be an exciting specialty. When not seeing patients, Jenica assists in the billing department and is proficient in reviewing and approving refunds to patients and insurance companies. Jenica was raised in Juneau and enjoys photography, gardening, and exploring Juneau’s trails with her family and dogs.
Angela R. Jack – Patient Care Coordinator
Angela has been part of our team since May of 2013. She is one of the friendly voices on the other end of the phone and will be your main initial point of contact with the office. She is an expert at multi-tasking and will be able to assist you in scheduling the best type of appointment to fit your vision and eye health needs. Angela is originally from Hoonah and has lived in Juneau since 2009.
Stephanie – Optician
Stephanie joined the practice in January of 2016 as an Optician. You will see Stephanie at the end of your eye exam and she will assist you in selecting a frame according to style, comfort and your prescription. Stephanie also spends time working on glasses and contact lens orders, and dispensing glasses and contact lenses to patients. Outside of work she enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her family
